Donald Trump sends his condolences... and a friendly reminder that your husband signed his own death certificate by joining the military.
This week, a Democratic U.S. congresswoman claimed that the president told a grieving widow of a U.S. soldier recently killed in an ambush that "he knew what he signed up for."
U.S. Rep Frederica Wilson told the Miami Herald that Trump called up Myeshia Johnson on Tuesday and said her husband Sgt. La David T. Johnson, who perished two weeks ago, "knew what he signed up for… but when it happens it hurts anyway."

Johnson was traveling to Miami International Airport to retrieve her husband's body, which was just arriving from overseas, when POTUS called her for a 5-minute chat.
Wilson was accompanying the family when she overheard the blunt conversation -- and was "livid" by how insensitively Trump handled the situation. She told reporters:
"I think it's so insensitive. It's crazy. Why do you need to say that? You don't say that to someone who lost family, the father, the breadwinner. You can say, ‘I'm so sorry for your loss. He's a hero.'...I'm livid. He can't even have an open-coffin funeral because his body is so messed up."
What does Trump have to say about this controversy? That it never happened, of course!

The president, who had recently made a stink about Barack Obama and other presidents never personally calling the families of soldiers killed overseas (which is a load of resounding bullshit), took to Twitter to deny Wilson's telling of the story.
In a post, Trump claimed he didn't say those words to the widow, and insisted he could PROVE it:
Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!

The president has yet to prove it.
Soon after news of what Trump said to the widow broke, critics took to Twitter to blast his lack of conversational skills. Expert apologizer Chelsea Clinton made a point to show the president the proper way to send someone condolences, tweeting:

In a statement to multiple outlets, a White House rep would not confirm or deny if the congresswoman's claims were correct, saying in a statement:
"The President's conversations with the families of American heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice are private."
La David was killed in an ambush in Niger, along with three other men, on October 4. The couple shares a 2-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter. Myeshia is pregnant with their third child and is due in January.
Our hearts go out to David's wife and family as they deal with such a devastating loss (and president).
